When it first premiered in 2020, the Mindy Kaling Netflix series (co-created by The Mindy Project’s Lang Fisher) asked an extremely important question of tweens and teens desperate for a crazy show: What if our main character was the absolute worst? And then what if we made you like her anyway? The show followed Indian American loser Devi - and her best friends Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), a talented queer robotics geek, and Eleanor (Ramona Young), a talented straight theater geek - on their high school-long quests to have sex and ditch their loser status. 11/18/2023 0 Comments Frontier fiber speed testThis is pretty good because you can then cut ties with your old internet service provider and then move onto the next, good internet provider to help you with the work that you do that perhaps makes use of the internet in your own home, perhaps your office and the likes. You can still check on how quick it really is with the said internet speed test from the company called Frontier among others. It doesn’t matter what internet connection you use. Things like these can actually be found out when you make use of things like the Frontier Speed Test that are the kind that tests many internet connections today. It’s a waste of money when your internet is way too slow. There are a lot of people like that these days and this is pretty much a good thing because who really does want to spend on internet that’s way too slow? Nobody would, actually. You might want to break away from your current internet service provider in the hopes of getting one that’s better. You can use this Frontier Speed Test to know whether it’s still worth subscribing for, your current internet connection situation. It’s good if you have some way of knowing whether your internet is slow or not. The speed test on your internet connection will tell you whether it is worth subscribing to or not which is actually a good thing because this can tell you whether you can recommend your current internet service provider’s services to others or not. Why is it important these days to check on how speedy or fast the flow of the internet is in homes? You surely would not want to pay much for internet that is at a snail’s pace when it delivers. Today, we have the Frontier Speed Test that can actually be used to check on the speed of our internet connections at home. One should be wary of this because you might be paying a lot for an internet connection that is actually in snail pace or something like it. There are some internet providers that do not give an accurate estimation on how fast their internet connection is. not sure how that's possible considering my interfaces are at 1Gbps.Anyone with internet connection in their home would need to know exactly how slow or fast their internet may be. a couple times, i had speed tests reporting 1.6Gbps. just cause it says "gig service" doesn't mean you're gonna get the full gig (or 940 or something in their case). have a realistic expectation about the speed for the level you paid for. both combined my overall internet bill is still cheaper than when i had spectrum only with everything. i think i'm paying ~ 80 for the gig service and ~ 60 for spectrum's "ultra" service. i find almost all customer/tech support for any internet provider to be shit and i avoid it as much as i can so i don't really have an opinion on that part but their internet service. plugged in their router and speed was pretty much as close to their gig service as possible, unplugged their stupid router and plugged it back into mine and viola.gig service.Īs my coworker said, their service is a crapshoot. checked my speed again the day after and it was still the same. they said it would take a day or two to provision. did an "online" chat with their customer support and they were more than willing to get me upgraded to the gig service. got it installed, used it, speeds were much better all around. find spectrum's wierd down/up speeds annoying so i decided to try frontier for at least a month or two. I was hesitant to get frontier when we moved to the new house cause what my coworker (lives in the same area) said about their service. 11/18/2023 0 Comments Apple tree seedlings for saleSeed-grown apple trees will not produce a predictably delicious fruit. These well-known and loved modern apple varieties are all produced from trees sequestered by fruit farmers and reproduced using vegetative propagation and grafting to ensure perfect genetic consistency. Nowhere were the Gravensteins, Granny Smiths, Jonathans, Red Delicious, Honeycrisps, Pink Ladies, Galas, and Fujis so ubiquitous today. They were not particularly appetizing to look at either, appearing in odd sizes and shapes with inconsistently colored, often rough and russetted skin. Most apples in early America did not taste great. In modern times, the fruit and nursery industry has greatly colored people’s perception of apples and apple trees. Tasty and valuable apple cider, however, could be counted on. Apples fit for eating (sweet and fine-textured and delicious, as we know them today) were not reliably produced in these early orchards. Consequently, cider became a highly valued and heavily traded commodity, and production of cider became foundational to the colonial economy. North American colonists deemed apple cider safer to consume than water, and adopted it as the national drink. These early apple orchards were planted primarily to support cider production. By the early 1600’s, North America’s first recorded apple orchard had been planted in Boston, and by the mid-17th Century, apple orchards were proliferating along American trade routes and on colonial farms. Greeks grew apple trees, as did the Romans after them, and long before the close of the First Century A.D., the beloved apple tree was dispersed to the far reaches of the known world.Ĭenturies later, colonists, bringing seeds from Europe, introduced apple trees to the North American continent. From there, merchants transported apple trees and apple seeds along the legendary overland and maritime Silk Road trade routes into Europe and throughout the Western World. It was perhaps 10,000 years ago that farmers in the mountains of Asia first began growing and “domesticating” apple trees. The amazing and generous apple tree has been one of humanity’s favorite trees - growing alongside us throughout most of recorded history. This tree comes from a wild ancestor, Malus sieversii, that grows in the mountains of Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and northwestern China. The “common” apple tree, as we know it today, is a species known as Malus domestica or, synonymously, Malus pumila. Apple trees have been cherished and cultivated for thousands of years by people of many cultures from every corner of the world. 11/18/2023 0 Comments Live edge coffee table with metal legsIf you’re using a metal base, be sure it has slotted mounting holes, not round ones. There are a few things you can do to help keep your slab from cracking: If your slab is mounted in a way that doesn’t allow for the wood to expand and contract like it wants to, there’s a high probability that it will crack. It expands and contracts in different environments. However, it can happen once a table is mounted to a base.Ī fact with all wood is that it moves. This typically happens at the kiln or while the slab is air drying. This can also usually be attributed to changes in humidity and temperature. The second most common issue is a slab cracking. If it doesn’t, you may need to flatten it again. When this happens, you can flip the slab over and often it will take back it’s original shape within a few days. If the slab already warped, there is a good chance it’s still a chance it’s not ruined. Don’t just sit it on one – actually mount it. Don’t use live edge in areas such as cabins unless they are temperature controlled year-round.Keep your table away from areas of high heat such as floor vents and other heaters such as wood burners.Cover them with moving blankets and support the entire slab evenly when transporting them.If they are not, store them in your house as recommended above before finishing. If you’re in PA or Maryland, we recommend slabs that are dried to 12% or less throughout. Check the moisture content before buying.Changes in moisture content are what cause the slabs to warp the first place. The slab will adjust to the moisture content of the location it’s going. Store the slab wherever it’s going to be used as a table for 1-2 weeks before finishing it.Store it upright after it’s flattened, not laying down. The best things you can do to keep your slab from warping are: The slab was left outside and it rained or was exposed to high temperatures and sunlight. For example, if you transport a 12′ slab on a truck with a 6′ bed, good chance it can warp by the time you get it home. The slab was transported with stress on the wood.Garages or storage units are also not ideal unless they’re heated and have dehumidifiers. Locations such as bathrooms or basements that have high moisture levels in the air are not ideal. The slab wasn’t stored in a good location. To avoid this, cover the one side you didn’t finish with blankets and finish the project as quickly as you can. If you’re working in a garage or woodshop, and you only finish one side, slabs can warp as quickly as overnight. If one side traps moisture and one side absorbs it, expect warping to occur. Applying a finish on one side only or unevenly. This change in moisture unevenly on the slab would cause the wood to warp. If a slab, for example, is sitting flat on a floor, then moisture can absorb or escape from the top. The slab wasn’t finished and it was stored laying flat or with uneven exposure to each side.If a slab isn’t dried enough it will warp as it dries out more once it’s in a home. Though not super common, it is worth mentioning. The slab wasn’t dried right in the first place. This is by far the most common issue we hear with live edge slabs. In this blog, we’re going to breakdown the most common issues we see with live edge slabs. The higher-end models will typically use more metal elements as they tend to last longer and offer superior durability. Most of these lamps are constructed from plastic and metal components. The ability to position the light exactly where it is needed is essential for doing detailed work.ĭepending on your needs there are several important features when selecting a light: This feature also makes it desirable for use as a bedside light, since it can clamp to a shelf or headboard.Īll of the arm articulations combine to create a lamp that has almost unlimited positioning options which makes it great for drawing or reading. The clamp helps to maximize your desktop space because it does not require a spot for a lamp base. However, since drafting tables are becoming much less common lamps with bases are now being used more often.Ĭlamps can be placed on shelves and tables to offer placement flexibility. A standard desk lamp would just slide off the table. Traditionally, a desk clamp was used to keep the lamp in place because a drafting table is sloped. Other designs use friction or counterweights to keep the lamp in place. The specific design varies by manufacturer, however, gravity is counteracted by springs which keep it held in position until it is moved again. The lowest arm is connected to a desk clamp or base with a pivot point that allows for further movement. It consists of two or three points of articulation that are connected by arms that support the lamp head that rotates on its axis. Also, these lamps aren't just for the office, the timeless design and versatility are just as useful at home.Ī defining feature of an architect lamp and what distinguishes it from other desk lamps is the swing arm design, also known as a balanced arm or a floating arm lamp. We architects still need to review printed drawings and these lamps shine a light on the potential problems with a project. However, while times have changed in terms of how architects draw, the simple lamp, drafting pencil, and architect’s scale will always be essential. You need to pick what’s best for you and your church. Translations like the NIV, CSB and NLT are more towards the thought for thought end.Īll of them are good, but they were translated with varying philosophies on how literal or colloquial a Bible translation should be. If you imagine a long line with word for word on the right side and thought for through on the left, translations like the KJV, NKJV, NASB, and ESV are closer to word for word on the spectrum. The ESV is not perfect, but it’s a solid, reliable translation. So for my personal study, I’ve settled on the English Standard Version (ESV) because it’s a pretty good balance of staying close to the original text while still being readable. But as I studied Greek, I realized how different some dynamic translations were from the original Greek. The NIV is more of a dynamic translation. The stick closer to what the original language said-word for word. They take the essential meaning of the original language and try to rephrase it more like we would say it today-thought for thought. The Biggest Difference in Bible Translations I now have great respect for the hard work and difficult choices that today’s Bible scholars have to make when debating the best English translation of a verse. Then I studied a lot on my own as a pastor, and I went back to seminary, and studied Greek. They didn’t even sound like the Bible, because the Bible should sound like the NIV.īut then I went to Bible College and started to study God’s Word seriously, and I learned about how the translation process works. Why would anyone even use another translation when the NIV is so good? I couldn’t understand why other translations were so different. The NIV was good enough for my church, so it was good enough for me. I grew up in a church where the New International Version (NIV) was the version what we used every Sunday. If you get Bible self-righteous about one translation, you’re only showing your ignorance and lack of understanding of how the translation process works. Maybe they didn’t choose the path that you wished they would have chosen, that’s okay. Some chose one path in one version, and another path in a different versions. They all have points where scholars wrestled with a word or phrase and had to make a choice. Let go of your Bibleolatry, your Bible idolatry, saying that one Bible is the superior and the only correct Bible, and realize that there are a lot of good English Bible translations. As English speakers, we have so many quality translations to choose from some of the brightest minds and best scholarship that we’re spoiled.Įvery time I talk about Bible translations, there are always people in the comments like, “This translation is better than all others!”ĭon’t be that person. There are other languages where with one translation or that hasn’t even had a Bible translated in that language yet. Look, we’re blessed to have so many choices for good translations in English. I don’t want to get too deep in the weeds with translations because there’s a lot of controversy and debate about which translation is the best. The first thing that everybody looks at in a new Bible is the translation.
